Brother Warren “WAWA” Snipe (Mu-Iota, Gallaudet University, ’94) will be making history on Sunday when he takes the stage at Super Bowl LVI.

For the first time in the history of the Super Bowl, the halftime show will feature two famous deaf rappers. Brother Snipe and fellow musician Sean Forbes will sign and perform  during the halftime show.

This is the second year that Brother Snipe will have a presence at the biggest football game of the year. Super Bowl LV featured Brother Snipe as the ASL interpreter for Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church’s national anthem and America the Beautiful performances.

“I would listen to the music over and over to get a feel of the music and the singing,” Snipe told The Washington Post last year. “This takes a lot of time and you want to make sure you’re understood, so playing with various ways to interpret a song is warranted!”

Super Bowl LVI and its halftime show will air on Super Bowl Sunday, February 13th. Brother Snipe is joined by other major artists, including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.

The Kappa Sigma Fraternity extends our deepest congratulations to Brother Snipe as he shares his gifts with the world. Congratulations Brother! A.E.K.D.B.

(DALLAS)—During its Tenth Annual Benefit and Gala, SEAL Legacy Foundation recognized Kappa Sigma Fraternity for surpassing $500,000 in lifetime donations to the charity. Kappa Sigma recently donated $100,000 in June as part of its Military Heroes Campaign.

“What’s special about the Kappa Sigmas is just this: they give me hope for a brighter future,” said retired Navy SEAL Commander Mark N. McGinnis, Founder and Managing Director of the SEAL Legacy Foundation, during his gala remarks. “These young men have the Military Heroes Campaign, where each chapter is charged with raising funds and committing so many service hours towards military-centric foundations. We’ve partnered with the Kappa Sigma Fraternity for the last five years, and young men, just like you see in the back corner right now, in just five years, have donated over half a million dollars to the SEAL Legacy Foundation.”

Founded in 2011, SEAL Legacy Foundation is dedicated to providing support to families of wounded and fallen United States Navy SEALs. This active group offers support through educational assistance for SEALS and their families and other charitable causes benefitting the SEAL Community. SEAL Legacy Foundation is based in Austin, Texas. More information on SEAL Legacy Foundation is available at www.seallegacy.org.

Including direct donations from Kappa Sigma undergraduate chapters, the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign raised $320,347 for veterans charities in the United States and Canada during the 2019-2020 academic year.

The Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign was launched in 2007. It’s mission then and now remains to give back to those who serve our country. The Military Heroes Campaign is primarily funded by Kappa Sigma undergraduate chapters and their alumni through their philanthropic fundraising efforts. The funds are aggregated through the national campaign so that significant donations can be made to charities verified to be 100% veteran-focused. As a result, 100% of funds generated by the Military Heroes Campaign go to support veterans.

Anyone who wishes to donate to the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign can make donations online at www.MilitaryHeroesCampaign.org.

Kappa Sigma Surpasses Goal for Largest, Best-Trained Volunteer Corps https://www.kappasigma.org/1500-volunteers/ Sun, 25 Oct 2020 09:00:00 +0000 https://www.kappasigma.org/?p=14400 The post Kappa Sigma Surpasses Goal for Largest, Best-Trained Volunteer Corps appeared first on Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

(CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.)— The Kappa Sigma Fraternity has surpassed its biennium goal of having the fraternal world’s largest, best-trained volunteer corps of more than 1,500 volunteers. The Fraternity’s board of directors approved appointments today that allowed the Fraternity to surpass the 1,500 volunteer goal.

“Kappa Sigma is an alumni-driven organization, and volunteer alumni are directly involved in coaching and mentoring our undergraduates at the local level like never before. The support provided to our undergraduate members through our volunteers is immeasurable,” said Worthy Grand Master Justin A. Hansen, president of Kappa Sigma’s international board of directors.

Kappa Sigma’s volunteer structure starts with our Supreme Executive Committee (SEC), our international board of directors. The SEC are all volunteers themselves, providing fraternity leadership in addition to their professional careers. The SEC appoints volunteer officers to directly help and mentor each undergraduate chapter and colony. Kappa Sigma appoints Alumnus Advisors (AAs) and Assistant Alumnus Advisors (AAAs) to advise our chapters on day-to-day operations. The fraternity also appoints District Grand Masters (DGMs) and Assistant District Grand Masters (ADGMs) to locally promote Kappa Sigma’s national programs. Many local volunteers also serve on volunteer Commissions, which help run operational areas of the fraternity with the assistance of Headquarters Staff.

The volunteer goal was one of three main goals Kappa Sigma set to achieve at its 72nd Biennial Grand Conclave, held in Charlottesville, Va. The Fraternity set a goal of raising more than $1 million over the 2019-2021 biennium during its Stephen Alonzo Jackson’s Weekends of Giving, raising more than $540,000 in 2020 with the 2021 edition yet to come. The Fraternity also set a historic expansion goal of establishing 40 new colonies and is having successful progress toward that goal.

“Great organizations thrive during times of adversity. The fact that Kappa Sigma continues to break records, such as having the largest and best-trained team of volunteers and mentors, shows that Kappa Sigma truly is a brotherhood like no other,” said Hansen.

GET YOUR CHAPTER IN THE CADUCEUS! https://www.kappasigma.org/caduceus-blog/ Tue, 28 Apr 2020 17:54:39 +0000 https://ksfnext.wpengine.com/?p=12518 The post GET YOUR CHAPTER IN THE CADUCEUS! appeared first on Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Having your Chapter in the Caduceus is a tremendous way to build morale in you Chapter and to keep your alumni up to date on the activities of their home chapter. The Kappa Sigma Fraternity wants to publicize the good works of your Chapter – its philanthropic events that support the fraternity’s A Greater Cause and Military Heroes Campaign initiatives and your dollars raised for charity and hours contributed to community service. We want to hear about and document your achievements in articles on Chapter homecoming celebrations, Founders Day, Stephen Alonzo Jackson Day, alumni outings, and success in Chapter events; in individual and chapter success on campus that reflect Kappa Sigma’s Initiative of Fellowship including chapter sponsored events and intramurals; in success in Scholarship and Leadership on Campus, which provide an opportunity to recognize Brothers who excel in the classroom and as leaders in chapter and campus organizations.

Your chapter should have submissions for the Caduceus in every issue of the magazine.

If you feel that you have had a significant achievement for the Chapter, then send your written article with photos of the events and ceremonies. In your article make sure that you tell the story of what occurred by the simple rules of who, what, when, where, why, and how. Tell the story of the success of your Chapter and events with detail and enthusiasm.

If you are submitting Chapter news, please make sure you send a summary of your recent events with a photo. Make sure all photos are high-resolution.

High-Resolution Photos – 300 DPI (Dots Per Inch)

Include Caption, or Cutline, to describe who is in the photo or what the photo is about.

Ultimately, your chapter’s Grand Scribe is responsible for all communications. The smart thing for Grand Scribes to do is to develop a communication and public relations team of Brothers to facilitate submissions to the Caduceus and to organize newsletters, internal chapter communications, and social media to keep everyone informed.

When Brothers are in the know, they are empowered and can organize their schedules to meet Chapter commitments.Winter/Spring issue-November 1 Summer/ Fall issue-May 1.

U.S. Sailing has honored Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (C.R.A.B.) with the 2019 Robie Pierce Award for its efforts over 30 years to promote public access sailing for thousands of people with disabilities. The award was presented by Robbie Pierce, the son of the award’s namesake, and US Sailing President Cory Sertl to C.R.A.B. Executive Director Paul “Bo” Bollinger at U.S. Sailing’s Leadership Conference awards ceremony on the deck of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Midway in San Diego, California. Brother Bollinger is an initiate of the Beta-Nu Chapter at the University of Kentucky.

The Para Sailing Committee chose C.R.A.B. from nominations across the country. The Robbie Pierce Award recognizes the outstanding program for sailors with disabilities that have made notable contributions to promote public access sailing for people with disabilities.

Accepting the award, Brother Bollinger said, “This year we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and what better way for U.S. Sailing to recognize our dedicated volunteers and adaptive sailing programs during this historic year.”

“We are honored to have earned U.S. Sailing’s Robie Pierce Award as a testament to our efforts,” said C.R.A.B. President Brad LaTour.

“This year we are embarking on building the country’s premier adaptive boating center in Annapolis, and we will be greatly expanding C.R.A.B.’s sailing programs and fleet for greater numbers of people with disabilities in the region.”

C.R.A.B. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that strives to make the therapeutic benefits of sailing and the freedom it provides a reality for physically and/or developmentally-challenged
individuals and their families, wounded warriors, and local children from at-risk communities regardless of their financial circumstances. C.R.A.B. has been providing sailing instruction for
nearly 30 years on the Chesapeake Bay.

The late Robie Pierce, who suffered with multiple sclerosis, won several national and world disabled sailing regattas. Pierce served as chair for the U.S. Sailing Sailors with Special Needs Committee, now called the Para Sailing Committee. Dedicated to improving access to community-based sailing venues, Pierce played a major role in helping to develop and promote disabled sailing.
