Kappa Sigma is pleased to welcome back the Omikron Chapter in Abingdon, VA!
Initiations were held at the Abingdon United Methodist Church that sits across the street from the “Golden Hearted Virginian” Stephen Alonzo Jackson’s home.
Originally founded on June 24th, 1874 as the 6th Chapter of Kappa Sigma, the 20 new members were installed on Saturday, March 17th, 2018. Worthy Grand Treasurer Ronal Holsey, Jr. was in attendance, along with Executive Director Mic Wilson, and William Garrett Jackson, Special Initiate of the Omikron Chapter and relative of Stephen Alonzo Jackson for the reinstallation of the Chapter.
The members of Omikron have completed over 1,000 hours and donated hundreds of dollars to A Greater Cause. Their local community service supported many charitable organizations and is a great representation of the core values of Kappa Sigma.
Special thanks to the brothers of the Kappa-Mu Chapter (Tennessee Technological University), Lambda-Beta Chapter
Congratulations to the Brothers of the reinstalled Chapter and welcome back to the Order!
History of the Spelling:
As Jackson was building the Chapter many of the soon to be members were derived from a local fraternity named Phi Mu Omikron. Jackson would reference this spelling of “Omikron” in many of his writings, and in his honor, we’ve kept the original Jackson spelling.
